Bike Walk tompkins HISTORY

Bike Walk Tomkpins’ early history is necessarily a history of Streets Alive! Ithaca, a twice-a-year celebration of people and movement in streets free of motor vehicles. First organized in September 2012 by the Creating Healthy Places Project (through the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County), these celebrations quickly became the organizing platform on which a steering committee was formed, comprised of representatives from a host of local organizations, including the Human Services Coalition, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the City of Ithaca, Ithaca Carshare and more.

In 2014, the aforementioned steering committee received a grant from the Park Foundation to start Bike Walk Tompkins. Initially a program of the Center for Transformative Action, the new
